These days, trying to make a website rank highly in search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo is extremely competitive, and people (or rather digital agencies) are trying all sorts of tricks to try and come out on top.
But what we've learnt over the years is that an honest approach clearly works best. For instance, focussing on your website’s infrastructure (these days ensuring it is fully responsive and user-friendly), producing unique and value-added content, relevant back-links on third party website and worthy portals, and of course engaging social media activity. Most importantly, always approaching your content and work with your audience and the user in mind.
Let the rest do their fancy ‘strategies’. Search engines are getting smarter by the day, and ultimately want to offer customers the best service possible, i.e. most accurate and relevant search result. So those that try to trick the search results are quickly penalised.
Many who obsess with search engine optimisation (SEO) and their rankings tend to adopt too many strategies that actually harm their site’s ranking – otherwise known as 'black hat' SEO techniques (perhaps you don’t even know you are doing it). This refers to the use of aggressive SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus only on search engines and not a human audience, and usually does not obey search engines guidelines.
